all right guys in this video we're,talking about how to build a website,from scratch,using squarespace and godaddy so let's,not waste a ton of time let's just jump,right in,all right so we are talking about,godaddy your domain name,and all of the above all right so let's,start off by going to godaddy.com,we've already purchased our domain name,but for the sake of demonstration,we'll show you how to do it so we'll,come in here and we'll type,wedding photography master class,search domain okay so domain is taken,and that's actually not,us however ours is here somewhere i'm,sure the thing to keep in mind is when,you're picking a domain name,try to keep it simple in as little words,as,possible really so we don't want to have,a domain name that's got just,a ton of characters in it okay so,something like wedding photography,master,isn't relevant but we will use this for,as an example,so we'll add to cart,and check out now,okay this is where you have to be,careful though godaddy is really bad,about sneaking things into your cart and,that's kind of the reason we wanted to,make this part of the video,this is some other security some,additional things that you can have,in order to make your site a little more,search engine friendly,um this is particularly important,when dealing with credit cards things,like that but we don't need this because,squarespace,actually takes care of this for us and,that is actually considered,ssl so we're gonna do no thanks,because we don't want to pay extra,start your website for free uncheck this,because this is another little,trick and then create an email address,that matches your domain,we don't really want this either because,we're taking a completely different,route,and it'll give us a little bit more,flexibility,continue to cart and boom,they have got us again so they're trying,to immediately put us in a five-year,registration,we don't want that so you just want to,change that to a year unless,you just want to do the five year i just,know that,i just know that getting married to,something too quick on this,you might regret later so no pun,intended,there was definitely a pun intended just,keep in mind that,you know you're gonna be stuck with us a,while if you do that then you would,check out which we're not going to do,because we don't need this,particular domain name so we've gotten,this taken care of let's go ahead and,move on,to squarespace all right we are in,squarespace so let's,click on get started because we're ready,to get started okay,so this is something that set us back,the first time we tried to film this,video and,it took us an hour to figure out,honestly the thing is is,you have to choose squarespace 7.0,as opposed to 7.1 the problem with 7.1,is that it's still in beta and has,some quirks and some things and a lot of,restrictions really,that keep you from really editing your,site the way that you want it,so for this video we're going to 7.0 in,hopes that maybe,7.1 will get resolved later on but,let's stick with this for now it's a,website it's not an atomic bomb,all right so let's go ahead and scroll,down,all the way down keep going keep going,keep going,okay right here so these templates are,on the latest version of squarespace,looking for templates from an earlier,version yes yes we are,click on this and we will start and we,will type in the word brine,because that is the name of the template,that we are going to go with,start with brine as you can see it looks,terrible and there are,pickles involved or cucumbers i'm not,well i get maybe it is a pickle i don't,is it a pickle or is it a cucumber,anyway so let's go ahead and start off,by linking our newly purchased domain,name to this website,let's go click on settings domains,use a domain i own okay so,use a domain i own all right so let's go,ahead and type in our domain name here,wedding photography,master class dot net,all right so this makes it super easy so,so easy,connect from provider we'll select,godaddy if you actually if you're using,another,service you can use them here,and it will actually do the same thing,it'll connect,automatically you just select connect,all right go daddy,all right and so we now have a website,that is,somewhat active we would actually have,to subscribe,and actually activate our site but in,this case we're just going to let it,ride,so let's select the word pages here now,you'll see a ton of pages here that all,say demo,we will just go ahead and make a blank,page we'll leave it alone for now,go ahead and make it your home page,and now we can start deleting all this,nonsense that we don't need,let's just get rid of all of it because,we you can't actually keep the page,anyway,because it's considered a sample page so,we just won't be able to use them anyway,new gallery we'll get rid of that one as,well cool,so we've gotten rid of all of these so,now that that's done let's change our,site title,because your site title just doesn't,seem that catchy,alright so let's head over to design,logo and title let's change this to,wedding photography,master class cool,so let's go ahead and add a logo we have,a logo,if you don't have a logo yet this would,be either a good time to get one,or you can always reference this video,later alright guys so we have our logo,we are good to go so let's go ahead and,back out of here,alright guys so we have our logo we're,good to go it looks great so let's,scroll down here,this would be for if you wanted to use a,favicon which you actually have to,have a very small file to do this,it's not really necessary but you can do,this it just it's the little,thing up here at the top which you can,always come back and do,we're not so much worried about that for,this though social logo,i prefer not to do this and the biggest,reason for this is that each page can,have a,particular image that will pop up,instead of the logo,if you were to share the url on facebook,or something similar so in this case,we're also going to leave this alone,all right so we're back on the design,tab let's go to site styles,click on your logo let's make it a,little bit bigger,there we go i like that cool,you
