I've been on Edgar Allen Poe Tok before,,so maybe they do know best,,and maybe I will like the things they show me.,So that's what we're gonna do, buy the first five things,that TikTok ads recommend to me and see how they do.,All right, so a couple of quick disclaimers here.,One is that I'm gonna be pretty much just ignoring,the first ad that comes up right when you open the app,,because I usually find that those are for movies, TV shows,or big companies like Credit Karma,,and I'm more interested in their normal ad inventory,rather than the big banner ones,,which feel less targeted overall.,The other disclaimer is that rather than just sitting,in one spot and just scrolling,until I get to all of the ads,,I'm gonna open the app up multiple times,throughout the day and get my five ads that way,,just because that more closely replicates,the way I use TikTok on the daily,,compulsively opening the app,,scrolling through a few videos,,feeling guilty about wasting time and then closing the app.,Alright, and with that, let's ruin my algorithm.,Alright, so I've been scrolling,,and TikTok gave me a pretty good ad here.,This is an ad for Pizza Hut's new limited edition,,streetwear line, Tastewear.,- They don't just sell pizza anymore. They make streetwear.,And it's called Tastewear, so let's get into it.,- Yes, that's right, Pizza Hut made a track suit,,and they're advertising it to me, which is weirdly targeted.,I am not necessarily the world's biggest Pizza Hut fan,,but I am a huge fan of companies,doing weird PR things, including clothing.,KFC Crocs, sign me up. consumer spend  ,above youtube disney plus and netflix this  is probably the uh the biggest stat on this  ,screen ranking above youtube and netflix in  consumer spend is absolutely ridiculous so  ,it's a monumental opportunity for people and  businesses to sell their products on the platform  ,how many times have you spoken to someone they've  said ah i found that product on tick tock it's  ,happening a lot these days so let's jump on to how  you can actually make the most of that so this is  ,the tick tock ad structure so at the top we have  tick tocks ad manager then we have ad campaigns  ,we have ad groups we have ad creative and then  landing pages to break these down one by one tick  ,doc ads manager is where you manage your ticktock  advertising account similar to the facebook  ,ad manager now a ad campaign is the foundation  of your ad so we're setting up our advertising  ,objectives and formats we then have ad group which  is target audiences ad placements budget things around  ,content because that is so important to make sure  that you make tick tock ads work the first step  ,you're going to want to do is set up your shopify  store if you haven't set up your carry on watching we're going to get  ,into the nitty gritty in a second once this is set  up we can click this section here setting up the  ,pixel the next step you can see that it's saying  connect tick tock for business this is where you  ,need a new tick tock account already have a tick  tock business account you can just click connect  ,but today we're gonna have to create a brand new  one so i'm just gonna click create new at the top  ,enter my email address get the verification code  sent into the verification code here agree to  ,terms and conditions and just click sign up you  can click connect down the bottom right and that's  ,now created an ads manager business manager under  that email we can click create new ad account and  ,we can select the country and the currency that we  want to be built in this is generally the region  ,that you want to be targeting change the business  name to something a little bit simpler click sign  ,up and connect you'll come to this data sharing  section which we've touched on a few times in my  ,previous episodes just click enhanced or maximum  providing you've got the terms and conditions set  ,up for something and then click confirm maximum  is obviously preferred this is how shopify shares  ,data with ticktock this is referred to as capi  which is a partnership between shopify and the  ,advertising platform click set up enter your final  details make sure you connect automatic payment  ,click confirm and you should be ready to go now  to create tick-tock ads we're actually going to  ,have to go back to the tick-tock view because we're  on a page when you add a product to cart it should  ,fire the add to cart pixel or if someone purchases  you can test a purchase and it will also fire that  ,pixel in the exact right way so now we're in  the tiktok ads account we can go ahead and  ,create our first campaign campaign structures  are really important to talk about it's what  ,separates good advertisers from today i'm going to be taking you behind,the scenes to a new content strategy,that we recently applied that is,crushing it right now,and i'm going to be showing you how you,can be everywhere,everywhere i go i see his face on tick,tock,ads facebook instagram and,youtube utilizing this process that i,don't see,anybody doing right now if you stay to,the end of this video,i'm gonna be showing you how you can be,everywhere and to be omnipresent,by just literally shooting one video but,it's not the typical repurposing kind of,videos,i'm gonna be showing you how you create,a really good engaging open,utilizing processes and templates that's,already proven on platforms like tick,tock,and how you take that and multiply that,and compound that to all,other platforms let's begin,so for a really long time i honestly,thought,tick tock is pretty dumb and in many,ways i still kind of do,however one thing that i realized is,tick-tock gives really good,engagements organic and,because of the songs and templates,that's already on this platform,i can actually create good compelling,videos,that is a good scroll stopper attention,grabber,that gets people stuck to give me that,initial 3,5 10 seconds and get them to watch,the rest of the video so today i'm going,to be showing you this process and i'm,going to be showing you,behind the scenes as we do it together,on how you can do it as well because,if you stay and watch the entire video,you're going to see exactly why,this is going to be one of the best ways,to create good compelling ads,to be able to repurpose that onto,facebook to be able to create,long-form videos from it pretty much,like what i'm doing right now,as well as repurposing it on instagram,as well as other platforms,so let's let's talk about what the big,picture strategy is first before we do,it together okay and the big picture,strategy is this,right now tick tock there's a ton of,videos and we're gonna shoot these,videos together,um where you can actually take a song,from a video that is already proven to,be viral,because it's engaging so because it's,viral because it's engaging all we need,to do,is we need to just model the context,of that song and the template of it in a,niche,that is related to you so for example,let's say,there is this viral video um or song,that is a movement that requires you to,point you know to five directions,right top left top right up down left,right whatever you could be in a serious,market you could be in stocks you could,be investing you could be in,in real estate you could be a plastic,surgeon and all the video needs to do is,like,you know you're still pointing five,directions but this time it says you,know,uh top five mistakes investors make and,then when you point here it's item,number one,i turn number two three four five make,sense so all i'm doing,is i'm taking the context that is proven,tick tock i'm gonna model it,and the first thing that i'm going to do,and we're going to be doing this,together is,i'm going to post this as an organic,post on tick tock,right so first things first we're going,to be killing like,five birds with one stone right so what,we're gonna do next,is once we create this organic post on,tick tock in fact,why don't we go ahead and do that right,now because i'm going to walk you,through the steps,while doing it together with you okay so,with that said let's go find,that more that video and create it,organically on tick tock let's begin,okay so right now for the purpose of,this video what i'm doing,is um i'm looking at what trend what's,trending what's being shown to me on my,for you page,and i can see that something that's,trending,is this hashtag which is hashtag,multiple me that has got 94,million views and a multiple me,challenge that has got 1.6 million views,right so it we obviously know it's,trending a lot of people are utilizing,this effect,so all i'm going to do is i want to take,a look at this effect,and see what are people doing okay and,the effect looks like it's just,clones of somebody okay so it's,basically,so it's number three two one pause,and then three two one pause so we want,to think about,how can we take this intro or this hook,that is proven to be,engaging or viral the question i'm,asking is how does this relate to,my market or niche or industry and,that's the question you got to be asking,yourself for example when i'm thinking,about this context multiple me,um i'm thinking like okay so as an,entrepreneur the hook,is that there's all these things that we,gotta be,juggling and doing okay so um notice,we probably have time for like i don't,know five or six poses so what i think,about like,the scripting of it okay so what are the,poses going to be,um if it's going to be life of a social,media manager stuff,,which is 65 plus.,And that's working.,So you have every audience that's now on TikTok,,which up until yesterday,was the number one website,,beating Google in terms of most traffic.,So TikTok is not just a fad.,It is the number one source of website traffic.,- Today, I'm very excited to be joined,by my good friend, Dennis Yu,,who is a Social Ads expert, and Co-author,of "The Definitive Guide on TikTok Ads.",And he's also the Founder of BlitzMetrics.,Dennis, welcome back to the show.,- What's up Mike?,- Super awesome to have you here.,So today, Dennis and I are gonna explore,TikTok ad strategy.,And Dennis, a lot has happened with you over the years,since you were last on the show.,You were last on the show in 2017,,and a lot of people know you as 'The Facebook Guy.',So why don't you tell me a little bit about,what has transpired with you,and your business since 2017,,and then how in the world did you get into TikTok ads?,- Well, you know the price of Facebook ads,has doubled every year.,And Larry, Kim, and I have done some research,to show that it went from $5 to $10,,to $20 per thousand impressions.,And a lot of the data has been disappearing,,not just 'cause of Cambridge Analytica,,but iOS 14, Google Chrome,,all the extensions from GDPR that are impacting us.,And it's just a perfect storm.,Where TikTok came in,,originally, it was under a few other names,,but it's called TikTok here,ByteDance is the parent company.,And I discovered that,a lot of the things that worked on Facebook,,short form video,,15 second stories that were working on, Instagram stories,,translated very well to TikTok,,because it's selfie style,,not highly produced kinds of videos, telling stories.,So, you know I've been promoting the dollar a day,tactic for quite some time.,We've spent a billion dollars on it.,I've been promoting the one minute video,,and now if we can condense the one minute video,down to 15 second videos,,then we can have things that,appear to be native on TikTok.,And we can have success on TikTok,,even if we are not young adults,that are singing and dancing,,or the kind of thing that causes,most real business professionals,to not wanna be on TikTok.,And so if I found it to be an amazing place,for businesses that have word of mouth,,have some kind of expertise to share,,because they can share that on their mobile phone,by literally just pulling it out like this,,and making a selfie style video.,And for those people that are willing to make video,,or they've made video on YouTube,,they've made video on Instagram or Facebook,,TikTok is a fantastic place.,We like to say that TikTok in 2022,,is like Facebook in 2007,,all the criticisms about the,,it's not ready, or it's for young adults,,or my audience isn't there,,or I don't wanna sing and dance.,You don't have to do any of that.,You just share your advice,,or you just highlight your customers.,And the very best thing is,that you can boost,what your partners, and customers,,and friends and employees have to say about you.,- So this is where I wanna like dig in,on your story a little bit,,because you were all in on Facebook,,and at some point,you decided to go explore TikTok,and ultimately co-author a book on it.,So tell me a little bit of that story.,How was that journey?,When did that happen?,Tell me a little bit of that.,- About two and a half years ago.,And I saw Musically,,which was the original incarnation of TikTok,,where people were doing reaction videos,,or they were doing duets.,And I thought, "I'm s'posed to be a social media expert,,so okay, fine.,I'll go check out this platform,,but I'm not gonna waste a lot of time.,I just need to...",Anytime there's a new social network,,I'll come in and take a look at it,,but then I found, wait a minute, these guys are smart.,So I've had meetings with the folks that run TikTok,,and they told me that they...,I'll probably get in trouble for telling you this.,They are intentionally copying,what Facebook has done, on the ad side,,with business manager,,with the set up of the accounts,,with the way you set up campaigns,and the objective, optimizing towards the objective,,custom audiences, pixels,,they've literally, they've copied how to do lead ads.,So TikTok lead ads,are the exact same thing as Facebook lead ads.,So for me, it was a very familiar transition,to move from Facebook business manager,to TikTok business manager.,- Well, let's be honest.,Facebook has copied TikTok.,- And vice versa.,Even YouTube is copying, which is-,- Everybody's copying everybody.,That's
