I Evaluated 4 BI Tools: Power BI, Tableau, Google Data Studio, & Sisense. Here's What I Found.

hey everybody my name is Garrett mayor,goo and I'm excited to chat with you,today about business intelligence tools,kind of my journey in exploring the,options that are on the market and how,you can use bi,and what bi tool we chose and why so at,directive we have over 50 search,marketing consultants and one of most,important things we do is analyze data,and try to determine based off that data,what should we do to kind of focus and,impact key performance drivers for our,clients so whether that's you know on,the paid search side on the organic side,on SEO or any type of campaign we're,running where there is an API or there's,a CSV export we want to be able to pull,that data out of the platform in its,native environment and pulled into a,visualization tool so we can start to,unpack and find things that we've never,seen before and when you start to get,more advanced you can even blend things,and start to see what happens across,multiple channels and pull out data from,each and make even better decisions so,what I did is I dove in to power bi,tableau Google Data studio in Sai since,I want to break down each and kind of,what we found so hopefully you can make,a better purchasing decision and save,some time so first let's arthe power bi,power bi was a very powerful tool I,liked it unfortunately like my whole,team here runs on Mac books so with that,being in mind I I had to spin up an AWS,server and I had to install windows onto,that AWS server and then using Microsoft,remote I would kind of go into that AWS,server get that live going to Windows,download power bi and after actually all,that it wasn't that bad so you could set,it up pretty easily so just cuz you have,a MacBook doesn't mean you can't use,power bi now the pricing part of it was,amazing $9.00 super great now the,problem with power bi that I found are,the integrations are weak so they don't,have a much a native integrations that,even go right into like Google Ads that,allows you to pull out that data so we,didn't have that which I didn't like and,frankly I think the adoption rate if I,were to roll that out into my entire,organization would be poor we do have,two people here who are sequel,developers that are fully dedicated to,it but,with their support and their help I,wasn't convinced that a consultant on,their own could quickly and easily learn,power bi export or import data into it,and make visualizations in a way that,they would deem to be helpful to their,current workflow and because I thought,they'd find it to be inefficient and too,high of a learning curve we didn't go,that route but it does seem like a great,tool very powerful and at nine dollars a,user incredibly accessible price point,next I want to look at tableau tableau,is actually I think probably my favorite,incredibly powerful very enterprise,feeling you can tell that they have,their reputation for a reason,now prices what kind of got me at $75 a,user,it was pretty steep price point to roll,out across 50 licenses beyond that there,was a higher learning curve tableau is,not nearly as simple as some of the,option we went with actually Dan which,was get Google Data studio and so well,tableau was beautiful was powerful was,quick was you know I found myself able,to use fairly simply could run on a,macbook whether on the cloud or on a,desktop i loved all that what I didn't,love was the $75 price point and then,their native integrations with Google,Ads when I was actually directly,importing the data from Google Ads,into the platform they were constantly,using some instead of aggregate which,was then ruining the date of quality and,I did have no support the support line,there was terrible,nobody has chat with it so if I couldn't,figure it out and I like to think I'm,pretty competent at least figuring out,things whether I you know know what I'm,doing or not right away I spent almost,literally eight hours in tableau by,myself going through every forum and,support doc and I couldn't solve the,data quality from the direct imports now,if you export reports from Google Ads,and import them into tableau it works,great but the actual import API that,they built and their native integration,to Google Ads frankly what was not was,not good enough and so at the $75 price,point without the perfect integration I,didn't love that set up so lastly I,looked at Google well then I went to,site since sizings we actually currently,use,- host dashboards for our clients now,unfortunately from my dashboard,experience clients want dashboards I,want dashboards everybody wants,dashboards so there's something kind of,sexy and appealing about the idea of,having just a dashboard in real time,that has all your most pertinent KPIs on,your scorecard,unfortunately from what I could see and,what I've learned because I have usage,statistics across all 70 of our accounts,less than five accounts actually,actively use their dashboards despite,them being custom we built and set up,for them and so with that in mind I've,realized that cl

With data updating so quickly, it's hard to be aware of all the changes happening in your organization. ,Sisense Pulse provides confidence that business issues are brought to immediate attention. ,In this video, we’re going to talk about how you can use Sisense Pulse to set up ,goals and KPIs and then set up monitoring and receive customized alerts ,when these goals are met (or not met). Sisense Pulse can be set up,on any metric in your dashboard. Here you can see I'm tracking my profit over time. ,As you can see, the profit of our company has been declining, and we have launched ,an ad campaign. Now our goal is to rise above 10K. ,I’m going to hover on the trend line and click Add To Pulse. Next, ,I want to give this Pulse item a name, so that we can know which one we're tracking. ,I’m going to call it “Profit above 10K”. ,Next you can choose which alert condition you want for this Pulse item. Threshold is the most,used, because it allows you to be notified when your metric exceeds or dips below ,a certain threshold. If you’re not concerned about a specific-number threshold,,you can also use Automatic. Here Sisense Analytics uses artificial intelligence ,to look at your data and automatically monitor it for you, notifying you if any anomalies are detected. ,Finally, the Always alert option sends you an alert every time the data refreshes. ,For many companies, with many KPIs, this is going to be way too many alerts. ,Let’s get back to Thresholds and set our goal. ,Here I want to get notified when the value is greater than 10K. I can click Add, ,and my Pulse item is added. At the top of the page, if I click Pulse, ,I can see my item, and now I’m going to get notified by email when ,my profit exceeds 10K. Let’s look at a more advanced example. ,My first Pulse item referred to my total sales. For my next Pulse item, ,I want to be alerted when my profit in the UK only rises above 8K. ,So I’ll select it in the list, ,and then I'm going to add a Pulse to this specific widget. And the great thing is, ,Pulse is going to automatically include any filters that I have in my dashboard to my Pulse item. ,So I’m clicking Add to Pulse. For my threshold,,I want to get a notification when my Profit is greater than 8K. Before I click Add, ,I want to click on Advanced. This opens a few more options. ,For example, you can click Show to see what filters are being applied to this Pulse item. ,On this tab I can share this Pulse item with other people. Depending on ,your licence, you’ll be able to share it with yourself or with additional people in your organization.,On this tab, I can customize the exact message I want the system to send when the alert is triggered.,Below the message, you can select the type of notification you want to get. ,Email and Mobile are checked by default. ,Under Additional, you can see two other options that customize how you want this notification to work. ,The first checkbox allows you to get notified only one time after the condition is met ,or when it passes a certain threshold. This is really helpful because, in many cases, ,only at the first time you pass the threshold, you want to know that something happened ,and that you should take note of. If you uncheck this box, Pulse is going to send you a notification ,for every time it checks the data and you’re above the threshold. This can also result ,in a lot of emails in your inbox. The second box you can check off allows you ,to get notified when the condition is no longer met. So if you went above the threshold, ,you can also get a notification when you dip back below it. ,Now I click on Add. And now I’ve gotten my results, and I’ve rebuilt my data. We’re getting ,a notification that we have exceeded our goals. We can check our Pulse items at any ,point. Not only do you see the current state of each item, but you can click on History ,and see the performance over time. You can also notice that if you hover,over one of the Pulse items, you can click on this arrow just to the right to the dashboard, ,and it opens this menu from which you can edit the item, duplicate it, turn it off, ,turn off the notifications, or turn off the Pulse item without ,deleting it entirely. So you can see that with Pulse you ,can track any number you want, set a threshold, and get alerted when something unusual happens ,that you should pay attention to.

dashboard,let's get straight into it if you,haven't used this before,you can start up with a free account,it's perfect place to start i'm going to,quickly,sign in,and let's get into building with dash,this,so i stumbled across this when one of my,clients,needed a dashboard and this was one of,the best,options i came up with for them that met,all their criteria,and they thoroughly enjoyed using it and,because of this i thought i wanted to,share how dash this works,and i thought let's make this make a,video about it,so i want a little bit about you in the,beginning of dash this,i'm just going to say i'm a marketing,agency and,i'm going to say one report for one,client,and straight away with intel,integrations,now as you can see this offers a heap of,integrations across lots of platforms,organically,in this example i am going to be doing,a seo dashboard but in your case you can,connect this to whatever,platform you need it to be so,let's jump into it you might want to,note that,as i'm setting up this dashboard that,the information's gonna be different for,you but the whole structure of setting,it up it's gonna be very similar,so dash this wants to connect to my,google account because that's where,my seo data is in google search console,and you can see,i'm going to give them access to,download my analytics data and my search,console data,so this will mean that dash this is,pulling that data through,which is what you have to do with these,programs and you can see here,there's a heap of options of websites,because i've got a few websites,in my search options i'm just going to,select,my agency website ipm media,and we're almost there so i'm going to,call it,give it a name seo ipm media,um i'm in australia so we could just set,the,language and region to australia time,period that's,it's good to set it as monthly in my,opinion it's a good round number,we don't need to set as a password but,interesting that you can,if you do want to have private,dashboards within your company you can,set passwords to keep them private,which is quite powerful feature if you,have,um also look for restricted information,that you want to keep away for some,employees and,you want to give to some people so,this is the fun part of setting up a,data dashboard,this is where we can edit it add our,widgets,add our logos and really make it our own,now the great thing about data,dashboards is that they're supposed to,be fun and exciting,so you actually pay attention to them,and,read them and really learn so,let's start by just walking you through,you can see here we can adjust the date,and since we selected monthly you can,see we're getting lots of different,monthly options in here,you can see we can share the data,dashboard,we have some options and some settings,in here,saving it as a template cloning it,managing the data sources,and then we also have view mode which is,what it's going to view,like for people that we share it to and,how it's going to look like when we,actually look at it,and then we can switch back to edit mode,in here,so that's the basics of editing,in dash this the next step we want to,look at,is the widget settings so there's three,widget options in the top left hand,corner we've got preset widgets which we,click on,we can see they're pre-built for us,and the parameters are already in if we,just quickly scroll through we can have,a look at click-through rate for pages,average position top clicks via country,devices or pages,and there's a few options you can also,see,that there's different and different,logos on the left hand side,and these represent what,visual image is going to be representing,each widget so in this case it's going,to be a graph,and this case it's going to be a list so,if we go back,and have a look at custom widgets you,can see it opens up,by giving us a bunch of different widget,option types,as i was talking about before we have,graph options list options,and there's also heaps of other ones,like gauge,pie charts so on so forth so in this,case we can go through,and select our widget type and then,select our data source and then have a,look,at what metric we want to put into the,data source so we have a look at clicks,and then we can set some custom some,custom criteria,in here so that's what a custom widget,is,it's custom built for you well you're,custom building it for yourself,and then a static widget these are,things like text and numbers that you,just want to put on the page to tell a,story,so in this case you might be adding some,headings to set up different parts of,your seo,so you can call these widgets but i'll,
